Our plan for the next day, having spent a very relaxing and interesting time in Kimberley, was to drive to Upington and discover some of that town before driving on to Augrabies.
This series on our travels will be a return to my home country, South Africa. We are so fortunate to live in a country absolutely blessed with incredible beauty. One of the best-known natural phenomena in this country is the Spring flowers in Namaqualand.

When we left home in September 2001 it was to go and see the annual natural phenomenon of the flowers in the Kalahari Desert on the West Coast of South Africa.

While listening to the radio a couple of weeks ago I learnt that South Africa had been voted the most beautiful country in the world out of 20 which had been nominated. What a privilege for us to live here.
Botswana has 3 main sources of income – tourism, diamonds and animal husbandry.

To reach the border of Botswana with Zambia we had to travel approximately 70kms due west on a beautiful, straight, tarred road.

We spent a lovely couple of hours walking around the Matobo Hills and seeing the grave of Cecil John Rhodes.

Having written a number of articles on our overseas trip in May 2006 I thought that it might be appropriate to tell you something of our local travels.
