Our excursion for this day sounded quite exotic, a cruise on the Italian Riviera or Riviera di Levante.
Our 3-day sojourn to Naples came to an end and we did the return trip to Civitavecchia, near Rome, with far less irritation than the first.
Another bucket list tick. A visit to the Isle of Capri.
If one visits Naples, a trip to see the ruins of Pompeii is a must, even if it is not a happy one.
After the minimalist breakfast which we were able to have at the café down the road, we walked straight up the main road of the area towards the city’s castle called Castel Nuovo.
Eleven days after we had boarded the cruise ship in Istanbul, our first cruise had come to an end. The ship docked in the Port of Civitavecchia, 53 miles (85kms) north of Rome.
From Giardini-Naxos in Sicily we sailed across to the mainland of Italy to visit the town of Sorrento which overlooks the Bay of Naples.
We left Bologna for Florence full of plans for our cruise to Greece and the Greek Isles, never imagining that it wouldn’t happen.
From Genoa we went on to Bologna whose name means a large smoked sausage of various meats. We were enjoying towns and cities that we had never seen before so our trip was proving to be very interesting.
After the 2 nights in Venice, we began a journey of train rides across Italy to get back to Rome to board our second cruise which was to take us to the Greek Isles.
