Today was a day of travel, travel and more travel via taxi, train, aeroplane and car as we travelled from Antwerp in Belgium to Cabanas in the The Algarve, south Portugal.
We had spent the morning walking around Antwerp and then, after lunch on the ship, Trevor and I decided to go back to visit the MAS (Museum aan de Stroom).
Our 2nd cruise ended in Antwerp, Belgium and it was wet, wet, wet!
Our penultimate stop was Maastricht, a town I only heard of about 30 years ago when a Professor of Microbiology came to the University of Natal Medical School. It, too, was a lovely place to learn about.
Our next visit was to the city of Nijmegen, the oldest city in The Netherlands and is home to one of the largest universities in the country.
We remained docked at Xanten and travelled by bus to the town of Wesel.
We remained docked in Rotterdam for the night and it was lovely to see the lights of the city.
Our next port was Dordrecht, the oldest city in Holland i.e. the combined provinces of North and South Holland. The city is located in South Holland.
We sailed out of Zaandam, near Amsterdam, to the town of Lelystadt as there was no dock available at Hoorn, our intended destination.
The boat stayed docked at Zaandam for another day to allow those who had just arrived in Amsterdam on embarkation day have time to see the city.
